Rome Clean and Green is hosting its city-wide Great American Cleanup kickoff on April 20, 2024 at Rome City Hall. Each year, the organization hosts the cleanup to encourage local businesses, groups and individual volunteers to help remove litter from city parks, trails and neighborhoods. The cleanup is supported by volunteers as well as the City of Rome’s Department of Public Works.

“Spring is a beautiful time of year in Rome, however we are always left with a lot of litter at our parks and trails after the snow melts,” said Jake DiBari of Rome Clean and Green. “Each year, we get around 100 volunteers to help spruce up our neighborhoods, and we couldn’t be more grateful for their support”.

Volunteers are encouraged to sign up online and register for the event on the Clean and Green Facebook page. Members of Rome Clean and Green will be at City Hall (198 North Washington Street) from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. to distribute cleaning supplies, trash bags and gloves. Groups can clean up any spot of their choosing, as well as have a location assigned to them. The cleanup runs from April 20 to June 30, and volunteers are able to pick up supplies from Moore Insurance Group during business hours starting Monday, April 22.

“I’m very excited about this year’s cleanup. Our partnership with Rome Clean and Green underscores our commitment to ensuring a pristine and vibrant environment for all”, said Mayor Jeff Lanigan. “Members of the DPW will be available to assist volunteers with the removal of any large or hazardous materials found around the city. Let’s work together to support Rome Clean and Green and make sure that Rome shines brighter than ever, creating a city that residents, businesses and visitors alike can all take pride in.”
