| The City of Rome offers a quality of life that is nearly unmatched. Located in the foothills of the Adirondacks, the City of Rome is rich in natural resources, picturesque scenery and a dedicated and hard-working citizenry.
Our community features a top notch educational system, a regionally renowned hospital that is at the top of state rankings for quality, patient care and patient satisfaction, an award-winning parks and recreation system, and the City of Rome is among the safest not only in New York State but nationally.
We strongly encourage residents to get involved in the community – and many do!
Residents and volunteers play a critical role in the success of cultural organizations like the Rome Art & Community Center, the Rome Historical Society, the Capitol Theater and Jervis Library; civic organizations such as Rome Rotary, the Lions Club, and the Knights of Columbus; and a host of community-based initiatives, church groups, youth and adult sports organizations and more.

PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT:
City of Rome Real Property Program
The Real Property Committee (RPC) was created to speed the return of properties acquired by the city for non-payment of taxes back to private owners. People interested in buying these properties may submit a purchase proposal for consideration. The primary function of the RPC is to screen the proposals and make recommendations to the Common Council and Board of Estimate and Contract for final approval. For more details concerning the process, please refer to the "Frequently Asked Questions" section. Since the RPC's inception, nearly 400 properties and vacant lots valued at over $5 million in assessed value are back to the city tax rolls with a 95% rehabilitation agreement completion rate.
